TitleMarriage licence registers
DescriptionB/C/8/1/1-25 are entry books of affidavits returned and delivered to surrogates and marriage licences issued by the Diocesan Registry.

B/C/8/1/26-42, which are more variable in their format than the later registers (B/C/8/1/1-25), were found among the financial records of the registrars and the courts (B/A/18). They essentially document the process by which documents relating to the licensing of marriages passed between the diocesan registry and surrogates, who were clergymen authorised to issue licences at various localities around the diocese. The fees involved in this procedure and some surnames of prospective brides and grooms to whom licences were issued are also recorded in some cases.
