Description | The Stafford Players was founded in November 1943 as a direct result of the wartime "Holidays at Home" campaign. A group of people got together in G.E.C.'s canteen and decided to stage a play called "Nothing but the Truth". This proved so popular that a decision was taken to continue. A name was chosen, a committee formed, and a constitution agreed, and a new Stafford amateur dramatic society came into being. A complete record has been kept from the start, called the Archive, and this forms the main series of records in this collection. The home base of the Players is the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford, more specifically the Malcolm Edwards Theatre, named after a former member. |
