Unlike many builders Bagnalls do not appear to have kept details of each locomotives livery. Only odd cases are mentioned in some of the surviving records. If the purchaser did not specify what it wanted, a standard livery was applied (dark green with red features, as shown on pages 271 and 274 in the Baker and Civil book "Bagnalls of Stafford"). It is also possible to get some idea from some of the official black and white photographs, from the tones, except where they were painted in a special livery, very light, just for photographic purposes, to bring out as much of the details as possible, for catalogues etc. They would then be painted properly, prior to despatch [information from Allan Baker].
