TitleNegative microfilms of drawings
DescriptionNote: These negatives were stored for many years in metal drawers, and there are signs of water damage due to damp storage conditions (they were in a room under the water tower at Vulcan Foundry). Rust is attached to the lower edges of many, in some cases the outer sleeve is adhered to the negative, and some groups of photographs are stuck together at their lower edges, and therefore may not be suitable for production without prior conservation work.

Some series and individual negatives are not to be found in this collection. One reason may be where the design was that of another builder, in which case the drawings will have been supplied to WG Bagnall on condition they were returned after the order was complete. Bagnalls would still have allocated them numbers in its series so as to be able to exert proper control during the construction process, but no microfilms would ever have been made as the original drawings would have already passed out of the drawing office. A few negatives may still have survivied in the negative series, either where a drawing was inadvertantly retained or where Bagnalls chose to design some components rather than use those designed elsewhere.

There are 18 boxes of the main series and the wagons, and a further two boxes of additional material including the second small series of negatives.
