DescriptionThe printed section of The Coal Trades Diary includes in each instance a colliery manager's guide with relevant Acts and regulations affecting coal mines, e.g. Coal Mines Act (1911), synopsis of the Workmen's Compensation Act (1906). Also special rules for the installation and use of electricity in mines; notes on the mechanical and electrical engineering of collieries, list of owners and collieries with addresses and names of managers and agents; and trade advertisments
All diaries include loose enclosures e.g. correspondence, memoranda re wage levels etc. Also 1920: coal price comparisons before, during and after the First World War, and a statistical summary of output, costs of production, and profits of the coal mining industry as a whole re three months ending 30th June. 1921: report of the Mining Association on the position of the industry. 1922: especially wages ascertainment and levels. 1925: Mines Rescue Association, names and addresses of trained men in South Staffordshire and East Worcestershire
