Administrative HistoryStafford Railway Building Society was incorporated as Stafford Railway Permanent Benefit Building Society on 17 October 1877, with its official meeting place as St Thomas's Schools, Castle Town, Stafford, close to the railway station. The original registered number of the Society was 131 B Staffs. This was altered to 549 B in 1961 when a national sequence was introduced.
The Society became a member of the Building Societies Association in 1928.
Several key Stafford business families have been closely associated with the Society over the years, as directors, secretaries, auditors and solicitors, including the Venables family, timber merchants of Castle Town.
The book-keeping system was re-organised in 1934 with the introduction of a book-keeping machine.
The current location of the Society's offices is 4 Market Square in Stafford.

minute books of Monthly Board Meetings, 1877-1965;

annual reports and accounts 1895-1916;
folder containing various copies of the Society's Rules and amendments, some annual reports, historical notes, also letters re lease of 4 Market Square, 1974-1984;
bank books for Directors' and secretary's accounts;
Directors' and Secretary's Counter Books;
investors' subscription account books;
share investment books;
bonus book; cheque book stubs;
receipts, letters, withdrawal notices re individual accounts in bundles (and some loose items), late 19th -early 20th cent.
