TitleLeases
DescriptionThe leases are largely counterparts but occasionally the surrendered lease has been kept as well. From about 1600 the leases are largely of standard form - for three lives, with payment of a substantial fine and only a nominal rent. This form of lease carries on into the nineteenth century by which time it very archaic indeed: only the leases for the larger farms have any convenants other than the standard reservation of timber and materials and the repair claims. From 1863 leases tend to be for a term of sixty or ninety years. From 1864 all leases have inset plans.
