Description | In general the collection includes title deeds of the Staffordshire and Buckinghamshire estates of the Legge family, together with documents relating to public appointments held by the heads of the family from the late seventeenth until the early nineteenth centuries. The series of papers relating to the evacuation of the garrison at Tangiers in 1683-1684 under the direction of George, 1st Baron Dartmouth, is particularly important. Some estate papers, including Kaye family properties in Yorkshire. Overseas material includes documents relating to the evacuation of Tangiers, 1683-1684, and grants of land in Florida, 18th century, Cabinet minutes, 1711-1713, and a long series relating to public appointments and offices of the Legge family. |
