| Description | Edward Sulyard married Mary Rayment without his family's knowledge in 1734 and was separated from her by 1748. It seems that his affairs were one of the causes of their estrangement and they had no children. He seems to have spent beyond his means and there are many pressing letters requesting him to pay his debts. The correspondence shows that he had stormy relationships with members of his family, particularly his mother, and also with friends. Many letters imply that he suffered from mental health problems.
