Description | The collection comprises accounts and correspondence relating to the family's estates mainly at Chartley in Staffordshire, 1841-1905, and out-county in Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and London, 1720-1793. There are also correspondence and accounts among the personal papers of family members, 1673-1853. Noteworthy items are some accounts and letters of Robert, 1st Earl Ferrers (1650 - 1717) and a rather larger series of estate accounts and correspondence of Robert, 7th Earl Ferrers (1756 - 1827), a contemporary of Rev. Walter Shirley. The connexion between the Nicholls family and the Shirley family is not clear. |
