TitleFarming and household diary
Date1830-1858
DescriptionStarts with a section entitled " A journal of incidental occurances during the year 1830", mostly relating to social activity in London such as visits and dining, written by a young lady, complete from 1 January to August [1830]. This appears to be an extended visit. July 11th is referred to as "my sixteenth natal day". She refers to [?brothers] William and Francis returning to school, and [?sister] Sarah returning home. The diary stops 14th August with a visit to Margate. The Chorleys are referred to as uncle and aunt. Grandfather visits from Clay Mill [?Claymills near Burton on Trent], and a hamper is sent to Staffordshire. Deaths of acquaintances are also noted, also that of the King [George IV].
Continued in another hand in 1856 as a record of names and addresses, mostly not local, and apparently met with at the Paris Exhibition of new technology [1855]. Some notes as to items seen or ordered.
Note of contents and value of a farm. Reference to location of signature on painting by DT Egerton 1827 ["Russians"]. Note of assessed taxes. Further names and addresses.
Farming costs and purchases, notes of livestock pedigrees.
