TitleLieutenant Governor John Dalling to Lord Dartmouth, Jamaica
Date1 May 1773
Description"I am very nearly made miserable by having succeeded to that, for which many years have been dedicated, not that I'd looked anxiously to keep the government of this island, at the same time, my Lord, I own that I expected to be indulged with the same span of time, which has ever been given to the most insignificant of my brethren, this expectation has been overset from the immediate appointment of another Governor I still hope but in part, for I look up to your Lordship in particular, and flatter myself that although there has been so immediate an appointment yet that Captain Keith will not be allowed to leave England so soon as he intimates, (in Oct next)" "in short, my Lord I am absolutely ruined"
