26 Mar 1772, St Domingo, translated copy of a letter from Don Joseph Solano to Don Julian de Arriaga, number 34, containing information on the same incidents

Translation of the proceedings at St Domingo, on Saona Island under the Government of St Domingo, several English were discovered with huts under pretence of carrying on turtle fishery, and their trade having several armed vessels, carrying it to such an excess that they came in with them as if they had been in British Dominions, orders were given by the Governor to Captain Don Lorenzo Daniel to go to Saona, take up as many as he should find in huts there, and not to suffer any Captain or men of the crews to escape, the English vessel in question was seen coming from the Island, and as when fired upon she held out no colours, she was secured and taken from La Cathalina to St Domingo, she was afterwards released, being condemned to pay costs

21 Jan 1773, Madrid, extract of a letter from Lord Grantham to the Earl of Rochford, fears he cannot obtain satisfaction from the owners of the "Hawke" as the report made by the Governor of St Domingo differs widely from that of Mr Sullivan who went from New York to that island to obtain redress, and it appears the steps taken against the vessel were quite legal
